Blocking time and closed periods

Use blocked time for short calendar holds and closed periods for broader business closures.

Two ways to stop availability

Tobinrin gives you two different tools, and they solve different problems:

  • Blocked time is best for short holds directly on the calendar.
  • Closed periods are best for date-range closures that affect one or more locations.

When to use blocked time

Use blocked time from the live calendar when you need to reserve a specific slot for things like:

  • lunch breaks
  • equipment maintenance
  • a private appointment not created through the normal booking flow
  • short staff downtime

Blocked time appears on the calendar like a non-bookable event and can be edited or removed from the booking detail panel.

When to use closed periods

Use Closed Periods for broader closures such as:

  • public holidays
  • staff retreats
  • renovations
  • full-location shutdowns across several days

Closed periods override normal location opening hours for the selected locations.

Which one should you pick

Choose blocked time when the hold is short and calendar-specific.

Choose closed periods when the closure is operational and should be treated as a settings-level rule.
